The District Schools Inspector (DSI) Mazowe District has been hauled to Guruve magistrate court on three counts of fraud with his two accountants.
The public prosecutor Albert Mazhindu told the court that the DSI Godfrey Chari (55) together with two accountants Maxwel Chigede and Oscar Machipisa allegedly duped the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education undisclosed cash from the period of February 2015 to 26 May 2016.
The trio were stationed at Mbire Ministry of Education District offices when the alleged crime was committed.
Chigede has since resigned from the Ministry and Machipisa is on suspension pending finalisation of the case.
Speaking to Bulawayo24.com Chari tried to exonerate himself from the crime saying he just approved payments without much checking.
"I was also misinformed on the payments l approved l did not know that the accountants defraud the Ministry so we wait for the courts to finalise," said Chari.
Apparently the case came to light when Chari was transferred from Mbire to Mazowe and was replaced by Michael Mubatapasango who informed the province on the documents of Mbire.
