Police have expressed concern over an increase in cases where members of the public disarm and assault officers going about their constitutional duties.
There have been reported cases of police officers being attacked while trying to arrest crime suspects. Police also accuse members of the public of freeing suspects who would have been arrested by officers.
In a statement today, chief police spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba called for an end to these illegal activities.
"The Zimbabwe Republic Police has noted with concern that some members of the public are hindering police in the performance of their duties. Some are disarming police officers as they effect arrest or assault and obstruct them whilst conducting their constitutional duties," she said.
Snr Asst Comm Charamba said anyone who engages in such activities was defeating or obstructing the course of justice.
