Police have dismissed reports circulating on social media and some sections of the mainstream media that the force recently issued a statement saying people were calling for the return of roadblocks as there was chaos on the roads.
Dismissing the statement as a malicious act meant to cause alarm and despondency, Chief Police Spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba said the police uses mainstream media to issue statements.
"The ZRP would like to dismiss such reports that are circulating on some sections of the media alleging that people are crying out for roadblocks to return. That statement was never issued by the ZRP and even the ZRP spokesperson never said that. That mischievous person (journalist) wants to tarnish the image of the ZRP by spreading falsehoods," Snr Asst Comm Charamba said.
