Coalition of Democrats leader Elton Mangoma has said his government will amend the constitution to grow a nation where girls are given an equal opportunity as boys.

"In 2014 Zimbabwe statistics reordered just about 20% of girls between 15-19 years of age were married. The African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child and the Constitution of Zimbabwe section 81(1) define a child as any person who is below the age of 18 years," he said.

"The Marriage Act [Chapter 5:11] states that marriage of girls between 16 and 18 years requires the consent of a parent/guardian or of a judge of the High Court in the absence of the parent/guardian and that the marriage of a girl below 16 years of age requires the consent of the responsible minister."

He said as CODE we aim to change the constitution as we believe in growing a nation were girls are given an equal opportunity as boys and put a stop to child marriages.

"CODE will provide special grants to each region that ensures no girl is left without a proper education," he said.
