Man sentenced to 9 months in prison over maintenance

A Mazowe mine employee reportedly lost his job after he was sentenced nine months in prison for failing to pay maintenance to his ex-wife.

Zivanai Tom was sent to prison by Bindura magistrate on maintenance arrears last Wednesday.

Bulawayo24.com heard that Tom had a serious altercation with his wife only identified as mai Tom who claimed maintenance while there were still staying together.

Tom had financial problems since the mine was not paying hence the amount accrued to a figure yet to be ascertained by this reporter.

He finally moved out of the house in suspicion of prostitution of his wife which he never had evidence of.

Contacted for comment mai Tom said she is not worried about Tom's conviction as she is about to venture into cross boarding to shame those who label her a prostitute.

"I am not worried about Tom's conviction, he failed to pay maintenance hence he should face the wrath of law," she said.

Many people in this compound label me a prostitute and in some instances they allege l charge $5 per session but l want to shame them by doing my business as a cross boarder."
