Some High and secondary school teachers in urban and rural areas have been accused of relaxing to teach pupils particularly the form fours and six who are about to write their examinations during the school terms  so that they make them pay for extra lessons which are conducted during holidays.

The uproar over teachers shenanigans come as the schools closed first term last week amid revelations several schools have advised their pupils that teachers will be available for lessons starting this week most for A' Level students and 16 April for O' Level students.

Revelations were that teachers do not concentrate in teaching pupils during school terms so that they leave a lot to cover during school holidays in which the pupils are supposed to pay for the lessons per subject.

"Teachers do not do their work when schools are open so that they leave a lot of work to be done during holidays where students are ordered to pay for each subject that they want to learn which becomes too expensive for parents who also pay fees on opening day," said a parent.

"My child told me that teachers are supposed to be paid $10 per subject for A Level during the holiday here in Bulawayo. This is despite the fact that we would have paid fees during the school terms in which children are not seriously attended to and soon when schools open we will pay fees again," said the parent.

Another parent from rural Matabeleland said schools were charging the children who are doing O' Level $5 per subject during holiday but when schools are closed those teachers will be doing nothing other than bragging about their successes in front of the children.

They said the children in addition to paying for the subjects they are going to learn they are ordered to pay for groceries they will be eating.

The concerned parents said when they can not afford to pay the money demanded their children miss out lessons and when schools ope they will be already behind and teachers are not prepared to assist them to be at par with others.

They appealed to the government to intervene and force teachers to do their work in full when schools are open and let it become the choice of the parents to seek extra lessons for their children just to assist them revise for examinations.
