Mines and Mining Development Minister Obert Mpofu on Thursday donated books and computers to all schools in his constituency of Umguza district and pledged to pay school fees for all orphaned and vulnerable children in the area.
Instead Mpofu called on schools to visit his offices with receipts of children who needed financial assistance.
"Please do not chase them away but come to me and we will pay for those child headed families and those with no parents. Just bring their invoices to my office," said Mpofu.
Mpofu also pledged to include all teachers in his constituency in the government relief aid following poor rainfall in the Matabeleland region.
"We are going to include the teachers in the food aid scheme as they also need assistance. Hunger does not choose the people it affects but all of us. The teachers need to be motivated and teach on filled stomachs. If you want to win an election, you have to be in good books with teachers," he said.
"I will win because I work for the people. I love the people of Matabeleland because if you come and say you want a position they will vote you but it is sad that some leaders turn their backs on the
people afterwards."
