Accident claims four including a police officer

Four people perished in a road accidents, which happened in Manicaland last week.

The accident happened at the 40km peg along the Mutare - Masvingo Road last Thursday, four people, including a police officer died on the spot, while 12 others were injured.

The dead include Assistant Inspector Ndhlovu of ZRP Support Unit, Changadzi, who was driving a Toyota Noah, Registration Number ABV 6014, Titus Zvakayi (55), Zarura Tichaona (55) and an unknown man.

Police said the Toyota Noah was carrying 16 passengers.

The acting Manicaland provincial police spokesman, Assistant Inspector Enock Chishiri, said the driver was travelling from Masvingo towards Mutare and upon approaching the 40km peg, the right rear tyre burst and he lost control of the vehicle.

"The vehicle veered off the road to the right and travelled for about 150 metres before overturning, rolling three times and plunging into a ditch. Police attended the scene and the next of kin were advised. We are appealing to members of the public to go and identify the body of one of the passengers at the Mutare Provincial Hospital mortuary," said Asst Insp Chishiri.
