'Tobva Tadii Paya' artisanal gold miners whose video went viral last year confessing to 'raping' suspected prostitutes are still holed in remand prison as they are failing to raise bail.

Prince Chikomo, Romeo Chirara and Admire Chirongoma, all aged 18, are failing to raise the $100 for their temporary freedom that was granted by Justice Clemence Phiri at the High Court in February.

The trio, represented by Tawanda Takaendesa for free, are now appealing for funds as they have been in remand prison since last month.

"My clients were granted bail by the High Court sometime last month and I am informed they have been failing to raise funds.

"So, I am looking around on how I might help them. There are some legal aid organisations that are willing to help and around Thursday they will be out," said Takaendesa.

Takaendesa said he could not shed more light on the issue since his priority is securing bail for the trio.

"We will give more details after Thursday. I know we will get the money for bail and they will be out on Thursday," added Takaendesa.
