Deputy Justice Minister Obert Gutu has rubbished suggestions by fellow party member within the MDC-T Matobo Senator Sithembile Mlotshwa last week to have prisoners supplied with sex toys.

Mlotshwa stunned parliament last week suggesting prisoners had feelings and needed to be provided with sex toys but this week, Gutu said government had more "pressing issues" to deal with.

"It is not a priority. We have issues outside sex that have to be dealt with," said Gutu.

He added that the ministry would not concentrate on facilitating sex toys for the prisoners yet they did not have adequate food.

"The Ministry puts food at the top of the priority list followed by clothing and sanitation.  Presently, inmates have two meals per day, they have porridge and sadza with beans which is not a balanced diet," said Gutu.

"The infrastructure of the prisons is very old with some holding facilities as old as 100 years. That again needs to be looked into so that prisons are habitable."

Mlotshwa has hogged the limelight over controversial suggestions around sex.

In 2010 she said the only solution to curb the spread of HIV among couples was to reduce sexual appetite on men by injecting them with an "immobiliser" to cut down their libido.
