Five-year-old toddler, Musaope Phiri has given a spine-chilling account of his encounter with alleged Satanists.
He claims a male and a female inflicted a wound on his neck before taking turns to suck his oozing blood, vampire-style and he could not do anything but lie there.
"The man, who appeared to be in a trance, salivated as he stuck his mouth on the painful wound," recalled the young boy.
Residents of the Eastern Highlands town of Chipinge and specifically the New Stands section of Gaza high- density suburb are struggling to come to terms with a bizarre story of the toddler who was recently abducted for one night by suspected Satanists.
Musaope resurfaced in the morning with deep wounds at the back of his neck.
The boy had lost a considerable amount of blood and had to be taken to Chipinge General Hospital.
His grandmother, Mrs Sarudzayi Musona, explained how Musaope went missing.
"I left him helping out in the kitchen and went to take an evening shower, but when I returned after some 20 to 30 minutes I found my grandson gone," she said.
But the community accuses a nurse, who resides in the same suburb, of being behind the boy's ordeal and other evildoing in the area.
The residents, who refused to be named for fear of reprisals, accused the nurse of practicing Satanism to enhance her wealth.
They said the nurse had over the years amassed considerable wealth, a development they linked to satanic dealings.
Gogo Musona said a neighbourhood search party failed to locate the boy before she came across something suspicious.
"In the next street (where the suspect resides) I came across a brand-new vehicle which was parked outside and some muffled cries of a toddler emanated from it.
"I then asked for permission from the vehicle owners to search their car, but they refused and took off at high speed.
"I don't know what later happened the night Musaope was away."
But the young boy vividly remembers what happened to him.
"I was carried to a secluded place some distance away from the compound.
"The two then slit my throat and the back of my neck using sharp objects.
"They then began to suck the blood that was gushing out before collecting some in a small container."
Musaope said he then passed out, only to wake up the following morning near his home.
A medical practitioner who attended to the boy after he had been ferried to hospital said Musaope was lucky to be alive since he had lost a lot of blood.
Following this incident and other mysterious happenings in the area, some residents are now afraid of seeking treatment at the medical institution where the suspected Satanist is employed.
There have been mysterious deaths of infants at the facility, prompting many expectant mothers to opt for other medical institutions.
Efforts to get a comment from the medical institution were fruitless.
"I need clearance from the provincial medical director based in Mutare," said an official in charge.
However, an official promised to come back to us after being cleared by the institution's superiors but never responded.
The nurse linked to the alleged Satanic practices denied any knowledge on what had happened to Musaope. She accused some former workmates of trying to tarnish her image. The nurse said differences between herself and some former senior members arose after she led an inquiry into allegations of corruption which led to their subsequent transfer and dismissal.
"We unearthed massive corruption where diesel donated by a non-governmental organisation was converted to personal use and those guys threatened to revenge," said the accused nurse.
"On the said date of the abduction, I was down with shigella (a bacterial disease) and have got the necessary documentation to prove that," she said.
The matter was reported to Chipinge police, who arrested the suspect but released her for lack of incriminating evidence.
Manicaland provincial acting police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Enock Chidzidzi said they had not yet received any correspondence from Chipinge police over the incident.
"We are yet to receive the memo from Chipinge, but we will notify you as soon as they get in touch with us," he said.
But some residents of Gaza are convinced that there is a satanic monster stalking their children.
