Stray elephants are reportedly causing havoc in Mbire, Mashonaland Central injuring four people and trampling three to death.
Mbire legislator Douglas Karoro confirmed that Shorai Zuzuku (44), her six year daughter Dudzai and Vimbai Kayupe died after being trampled by elephants.

"I can confirm that two people died from Magunha village were trampled by an elephant on Friday while they were busy in their field, the two are mother and daughter Shorai Zuzuki (44) and Dudzai, confirmed Karoro.

"The following day in Nyagore village a jumbo bull passed through and injured children who were playing and all are currently admitted at Chitsungo while killing Vimbai Kayupe."

Apparently numerous calls have been made by the legislator for measures to be put in place to protect people from wild animals in the remote area of Mbire but the government seems to be turning a deaf ear and a lot of people are being killed in Mbire by stray animals.

"We are calling upon the government to intervene in protecting our people from stray animals, we have made several pleas but efforts to protect the people are just not enough," lamented Karoro.

Efforts to contact Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority spokesperson Mr Tinashe Farawo were futile.

However, a member of Problem Animal Control who declined to be named said they managed to track one stray jumbo bull and killed it while the other that killed mother and daughter joined other elephants and is still at large.
