A FUNERAL insurance company employee based in Esigodini was last week slapped with a wholly-suspended 12-month jail term for defrauding his employer of $1 581.
Mbizo Bhebhe, who works as an agent for Kings and Queens Funeral Insurance Company, had denied the fraud charge when he appeared before Esigodini magistrate Tawanda Muchemwa, but was convicted due to overwhelming evidence.
The court spared him a custodial sentence on condition he pays reconstitution to the funeral insurance firm.
The court heard that sometime between August 2015 and June 2016, Bhebhe produced a fake receipt book which he used to collect monthly cash subscriptions from clients. In the process, he defrauded the firm of $1581.
The scam was unearthed during an internal audit, leading to Bhebhe's arrest
