A 43-YEAR-old man lost his plot after trying to destroy evidence in a matter in which he is accused of rape, five counts of murder and two counts of attempted murder.
Stephen Manjovha, 43, of house No. 8093 in Budiriro 5B was not asked to plead to the charges when he appeared before Harare magistrate Tildah Mazhande who advised him to approach the High Court.
The two complainants in the matter are in critical condition at the intensive care unit at Harare hospital.
According to the State, Manjovha is likely to face a lengthy custodial sentence if convicted hence argued for his placement in remand custody.
"Accused stays in the same neighbourhood with the witnesses in this matter, and if granted bail he will either abscond or interfere with witnesses.
"After committing the offence, the accused was seen by two witnesses Patricia Rutsato and Tabeth Makumbe torching the complainant's house," said the prosecutor Linda Gadzikwa.
The matter was rolled to April 27 for routine remand.
