A bolt of lightning struck a 40-year-old woman, ravaging her private parts and breast, leading to her death.

The shocking incident happened last Friday at Lucydale Farm in Matopo, Matobo District, in Matabeleland South province.

According to sources the late Sheilar Nyathi (40) and Angeline Ndlovu (31) were at the farm guarding the fields.

The deceased's brother, Donald Nyathi (53) a supervisor at the farm said the lightning struck her while the two raced to a nearby shed to shelter from the rains.

"They ran towards the shed covering themselves with an umbrella. I found her undressed lifeless body lying on the ground facing downwards. The bolt of lightning ravaged her breast and other parts of the body and left her clothes including her under garment in tatters. But Angeline sustained minor injuries," said Nyathi.

Nyathi said they reported the matter to the police and took the deceased's body to United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH) for post-mortem.

The late Sheilar was buried last Sunday at her parents' homestead at Lookout Masuku Village.

The deceased's mother Ennie Nyathi (71) described her late daughter as someone who was caring and loving.

"Since my late husband's death she has been taking care of me together with Donald. I will fondly miss her and without her I feel my life is empty,"she said while shedding tears.

The deceased is survived by four children.

The lightning survivor, Angeline, visited a prophet on Tuesday and later resigned from her work.
