THE three students from Great Zimbabwe University students, who were arrested last week on public violence charges, have been granted $50 bail each and remanded to April 27 by Chivi magistrate Bishard Chineka.

Hererimo Giya, Eutychus Mahwekwe and Tinotenda Kumire were arrested on April 13 following violent demonstrations at the university's Mashava campus, as students protested against a tuition fee hike and poor living conditions.

The court heard that the trio, represented by human rights lawyer Martin Mureri, barricaded some roads at the university campus, attacked police officers with stones and damaged property, including chairs.

As part of their bail conditions, the students were ordered to report three times at Mashava Police Station and write their end of semester examinations under the watchful eye of the police.
