Our independence so near yet so far - Majome

MDC-T legislator for Harare West Jessie Majome has said the independence which was attained by the country in 1980 was something that people celebrated yet the true independence is still far from them after wards.
"I hope you had a happy Independence Day despite the dark clouds that dim our pathway to the Great Zimbabwe that we're meant to be. I spent the day contemplating the enigma that we have of being so near yet so far from the freedom to be the best we can be that should have come with our independence 38 years ago. We definitely need a new government that finally takes us to being Great Zimbabwe," she said.
"The statement purporting to summarily dismiss public nurses cast a dark pall on our anniversary coming as it did right on its eve. Talk about timing! The thunderbolt is as baffling in its possible intentions as well as its very meaning. For what reason should nurses show 'remorse'- for failing to be paid? How does a claim that an amount was paid into the health ministry's account on the same day of the statement purporting to fire them translate into a fact of payment into the nurses' accounts? How does it happen that a Vice President points an ominously accusatory finger at nurses for being 'politically motivated' as if politics is a crime in a country with a Constitution whose section 67 guarantees everyone political rights which include the right to support or advance a cause such as that of their workers' rights, which are also guaranteed by the same Constitution."
She said she hope this 'new dispensation' government quickly remembers that we removed Mugabe from office for his failure to obey, uphold and defend the Constitution as per its section 90.
"It must therefore urgently resolve the health catastrophe in a manner that prioritized saving lives and the total national interest. Meanwhile let us pray for those in government hospitals. Let us also pray for our own health so God forbids that we should fall ill during this time. May the souls of those who died due to the strike rest in peace, my condolences to their families and friends. How I wish for a happy Independence Day," she said.
