Sporadic wild celebrations greeted the sentencing of six political activists in Harare convicted of conspiracy to commit acts of public violence aimed at overthrowing President Mugabe.
That was after they watched videos of the Arab Spring last February that toppled several leaders.
Munyaradzi Gwisai, Antonater Choto, 36, Tatenda Mombeyarara, 29, Edson Chakuma, 38, Hopewell Gumbo, 32, and Welcome Zimuto, 25 were spared jail.
Business activities at Rotten Row magistrate's courts in Harare and other premises close to the courts came to a standstill when the verdict filtered through.
Scores of people mostly from the civic society had gathered outside the court buildings patiently waiting for the judgment in the afternoon.
Moments after the verdict was known, people broke into song and dance celebrating a "victory"
A tough sentence of 10 years in jail each was widely expected.
However, journalist Columbus Mavhunga arrested for taking pictures in court. About 8 Zinasu members are suspected of being arrested for "over the top" celebrations
Police are keeping a close watch.
