The MDC-T splinter group has held its extraordinary congress in Bulawayo and elected a new national standing committee with former MDC-T party vice-president Dr Thokozani Khupe as its new president.

Mr Obert Gutu was elected as its deputy president and Mr Abednico Bhebhe becoming its new chairman while Mr Nixon Nyikadzino as the party's secretary-general.

In her acceptance speech, Dr Khupe said the new leadership puts to rest the leadership wrangle in the party and brings to shame those who had hijacked the party.

She said her party will now start the process of selecting candidates for the next election as they work on their manifesto in readiness for the polls set for July this year.

Guest of honour at the congress Dr Jessie Kabwila of the Malawi Congress Party, who is also the chairperson of the SADC women parliamentary caucus said constitutionalism must not start at a government level but must be engrained at a political party level.

She said the intra-party squabbles that have been going on in the MDC-T party shows lack of constitutionalism.
