AN Epworth woman was seriously burnt after her husband caught her being intimate with another man in their bedroom and set the grass-thatched house on fire.

The incident occurred on Christmas Day last year.

Russell Tawadya (28) of 3335 Overspill, could not contain his anger after finding his wife's alleged loverin his house and he set the house on fire.

The wife, Amanda Nyama, sustained severe burns and is still admitted at Parirenyatwa Hospital while her sister and the suspected lover were treated and discharged.

Tawadya had been on the run since December last year and was only arrested this month.

He appeared in court yesterday charged with attempted murder and was not asked to plead.

Magistrate Mr Donald Ndirowei remanded him in custody to April 5 for routine remand and advised him to apply for bail at the High Court.

Prosecutor Mr David Magwegwe alleges that on December 25 last year, Tawadya returned home around 8pm.

He found his wife Nyama being intimate with another man. Tawadya confronted the two and an altercation ensued.

He beat up Nyama and her alleged lover before Nyama's sister intervened to stop the scuffle.

It is alleged that they overpowered Tawadya whereupon Nyama pushed him out of the house and locked the door from inside.

The court heard that Tawadya went away for a few minutes and returned with two litres of petrol, which he sprinkled all over the thatched house and set it ablaze.

He then fled, leaving the three stuck inside and screaming for help.

Nyama was seriously burnt while her alleged boyfriend and sister escaped with minor burns.

They were rushed to hospital by neighbours.

A police report was made and Tawadya, who was on the run for three months, was arrested on Sunday.
