Water Resources, Development and Management Minister Simon Sipepa Nkomo (MDC-T) yesterday praised President Mugabe for his unparalleled leadership qualities.
Minister Nkomo, whose ministry hosted the World Water Day celebrations at Great Zimbabwe in Masvingo yesterday, said apart from his liberation credentials, President Mugabe was unique in many ways. He made these remarks while introducing President Mugabe to delegates attending the celebrations.
"I want to tell you about the President as the chairman of our Cabinet. The Cabinet (room) has got a long table. We enter Cabinet through one door. Religiously every Tuesday as he (President) comes through he greets every Cabinet Minister.
"The President will always touch you. He never misses touching you on your hand and shoulder. Sometimes he asks us (ministers) about our children," said Minister Nkomo.
"The President as chair of Cabinet, it does not matter how late you are, if you lift your hand (to ask a question) he will never deny you the right to speak," Minister Nkomo said.
He said President Mugabe will allow you to speak even against the wishes of other ministers.
"Finally, Cabinet ministers are not the same. We have different views. Sometimes it gets hot (in Cabinet). I have watched the President, he will throw one word and we will laugh and the matter ends," added Minister Nkomo.
He narrated how he worked well with President Mugabe as a youth in Zapu during the liberation war.
President Mugabe interjected and joked: "Then why did you run away (to join the MDC)".
There was great applause from the gathering as President Mugabe and Minister Nkomo shared lighter moments. The World Water Day celebrations were attended by high ranking Government officials including Deputy Prime Minister Thokozani Khupe, Local Government, Rural and Urban Development Minister Ignatius Chombo and Agriculture Minister Joseph Made.
