An opposition party, Zanu Ndonga, has added its voice in calling for elections to be held this year saying the call by some parties in the inclusive government for the full implementation of electoral reforms before elections is just a mind-game to delay the polls.
Zanu Ndonga President, Gondayi Vutuza said some parties in the inclusive government are benefitting so much from the current dispensation and are not willing to go for elections.
He said as a result, the same parties are now employing all sorts of tactics including calling for the full implementation of electoral reforms, to delay elections and prolong their stay in government.
He said the delaying of elections will affect the ordinary person more since investors will continue to hesitate to do business in the country.
"As Zanu Ndonga, we want elections to be held this year. What we are seeing is that some parties in the inclusive government have become so comfortable and would want the situation to remain as it is.
"However, the current dispensation does not attract investors because people will not be sure what will happen next and no one would want to invest in a country like that," said Vutuza.
Vutuza also castigated the slow pace at which the constitution drafting process is moving, adding that some elements in COPAC are delaying the process intentionally so that there will be no elections this year.
Head of State and Government and Commander-in-Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, President Robert Mugabe is on record saying elections must be held this year, with or without a new constitution.
