The Minister of Local Government, Rural and Urban Development, Dr Ignatius Chombo, has implored local authorities across the country to work harmoniously with churches and ensure that those without proper stands are allocated appropriate spaces in accordance with town planning regulations.#000000" face="Palatino, Georgia, Times, 'Times New Roman', serif">

Speaking on the sidelines of a Johane Marange annual convention just outside Mufakose high density surburb in Harare, Dr Chombo said his ministry is working towards ensuring that all churches that require space for worshipping are allocated proper stands, in line with existing town planning regulations.

He however emphasized the need for churches including the apostolic sects to provide ablution facilities and running water so as to curb the spread of diseases.

Johane Marange church elder, Madzibaba Noah Mazvimbirike, appealed to the government to also consider the apostolic sects when allocating farms. He said his church will continue to be guided by the holy book which states that leaders are chosen by God.

The convention started on the 15th of this month and is expected to end on the 26th.

It is being attended by members from other neighbouring countries including Zambia, Botswana, Malawi and the DRC.

The Johane Marange sect in Mufakose was allocated space just outside Mufakose 54 years ago, but authorities at the Harare City Council have now included the area in land that is earmarked for residential and commercial stands.
