There was commotion in Shurugwi town when residents of Sebakwe Park suburb were recently left in a panic state after a passerby claimed that a huge snake was performing miracles of "vomiting cash". Witnesses claimed the 'mysterious snake' was linked to the owner of a fenced and beautiful house in Sebanga Park.
They said the owner of the mansion, a prominent gold buyer in the mining town was later attacked by other residents who labelled him a "wizard" who made his fortune from the 'miracle snake'.
"There was furore at his house as residents jostled to have a glimpse of the huge snake which was allegedly spitting out cash while at a veranda of the huge beautiful house," said a vendor who only identified himself as Mahore.
Mahore said police were later called in to disperse the curious residents who were gathered at the house intending to have a glimpse of the 'miracle snake' which had allegedly just crawled into the house. he said the police also escorted the owner of the house to the charge office where he went on to file defamation charges against one, Vusumuzi Ncube (19) who had raised alarm by alleging that a huge snake was seen "vomiting cash" at his house.
Meanwhile, Ncube was on Tuesday arraigned before Shurugwi magistrate, Ms Evia Matura facing defamation charges. Ncube left the court gallery in stitches after he claimed that he attempted to pick up a brand new $50 note which was part of the large sums of Unites States dollar notes that had been vomited by the snake.
"My lord it's true that I saw a snake vomiting cash at his house and in the process I also attempted to pick up a $50 note which the snake vomited. I later shouted for help when the snake wanted to attack me for picking up the note before it crawled back into the house," he said.
Ms Matura the adjourned the court and ordered that Ncube be examined by two Government doctors to establish his mental health status before trial resumes on 4 April.
For the State, Mr Taurai Mutode told the court that on 20 February the accused Ncube was at Rolly Bar drinking beer with friends. He said during the beer drink, Ncube informed other patrons that he had seen a huge snake vomiting large amounts of cash at the gold buyer's house on the previous day. The court heard that Ncube indicated that the snake tried to attack him after he raised the alarm and he further alleged that he saw the snake getting into the house.
Mr Mutodi told the court that a crowd of curious residents visited the house to have a glimpse of the snake following the alarm raised by Ncube. It is the State's case that the owner of the house was baffled to see a huge crowd of curious residents gathering at his house. The said the crowd accused him of being a wizard. He went on to file defamation charges against Ncube leading to his arrest.
