Man commits suicide at AFM pastor's house

A church suicide has left residents of Luveve questioning the counselling ability on an Apostolic Faith Mission (AFM) church pastor. It is reported that the pastor was providing counselling sessions to the late Robson Moyo's wife and had given her accommodation as well.

According to reports, Moyo (36) was having problems with his wife before he allegedly committed suicide. His wife is a domestic worker at the pastor's house. When fighting started between the man and his wife, the woman left their matrimonial house in Mwenezi and reportedly sought refuge at the pastor's house.

Sources close to the proceedings claimed that his relatives advised him not to leave his wife but should try talking to her and amicably settle the matter. Moyo then came to Bulawayo to the pastor's house and pleaded with him to tell his wife to return home so that they could solve the problem but she refused.

She told her husband that she needed to work for a month and after that she would go back with him but Moyo refused. One of the neighbours who spoke on condition of anonymity said:"What saddens me is that there was little effort to convince the wife to return to her husband."

Reports say that the deceased then went outside for about three minutes and on his return, he said to the pastor's son:

"Tell your mother and father that my wife finally gets what she has always wanted," the deceased then handed over a bottle of an unknown substance which police believe to be cotton pesticide.

After that there was a rapid deterioration of his health and he  was ferried to hospital where he died the following morning. Police are still investigating the suicide case and Bulawayo acting police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Precious Simango confirmed the incident. She appealed to the public to seek counselling from the community relations office for any misunderstanding rather than to opt for suicide.
