European countries crave for Zimbabwe meat

State Enterprises and Parastatals minister Gordon Moyo has alleged that European countries yearn for meat from Zimbabwe after they imposed an import ban in 2011.
Addressing farmers in Bulawayo, Moyo said Europe should lift the ban to enjoy the country's meat.
"They are now feeling the pinch after they (EU) imposed a ban on meat in August 2001 after an outbreak of foot and month.
"I now hear that they are missing our meat, literally starving for it," said Moyo.
Our Cold storage used to supply the European Union with high quality beef which was the best in the market but a decade after the ban they are missing our meat" claimed Moyo.
To buttress his point, Moyo said there is a beef crisis in Europe.
"Currently, EU countries have serious meat problems from Portugal, Italy, Greece and Spain. We as Zimbabwe can assist by way of exporting" said Moyo.
When EU imposed the meat ban Zimbabwe through CSC had an annual quota to EU of 9 100 tonnes of beef.
The quota gave CSC $45 million per year.
