The estranged wife of Zimbabwe Defence Forces commander General Constantine Chiwenga is demanding $40-million from her husband's new partner for snatching him and wounding her feelings.

The army chief moved in with former supermodel Mary Mubaiwa, the ex-wife of former national soccer team striker Shingi Kawondera, late last year after his turbulent marriage to Jocelyn Mauchaza Chiwenga fell apart.

Court papers filed by Harare businesswoman Chiwenga show she is very bitter at losing her husband to Mubaiwa. Jocelyn, who married Chiwenga in November 1998, says by purporting to marry the army chief while he was still married to her, Mubaiwa had "greatly disrespected and hurt her".

The controversial businesswoman claims that Mubaiwa's actions have caused her to suffer the loss of comfort of her defence forces spouse.

Of the $40-million, Jocelyn is claiming $20-million for insult while the other $20-million is for loss of consortium, which refers to the deprivation of benefits of a relationship. Jocelyn maintains her marriage to Chiwenga is still valid because she has never signed divorce papers - and that no "competent court" in Zimbabwe or anywhere else had nullified the union with the general.
