Yesterday Zimbabwe joined the rest of the world in commemorating the International Children's Day of Broadcasting amid calls for societies to respect the rights of children.

The Minister of Youth Development, Indigenisation and Empowerment, Saviour Kasukuwere took time to interact with kids at ZBC Pockets Hill studios in Harare.

Kasukuwere said government has a national plan to support and promote the uplift of children in all areas.

One of the radio coordinators for the day, who is also National FM Radio Producer-Presenter, Retsepile Sitoboli said children must be given a chance to broadcast in their mother languages.

The International Children's Day of Broadcasting is observed every year in March the world over and it gives broadcasters the opportunity to use their media to benefit children.

In Zimbabwe, the day comes at a time when there are a number of children who have gone missing in suspected ritual circumstances, hence adopting the theme "I Trust You Protect Me" for this year.
