Acting Minister of Women's Affairs, Gender and Community Development, Sithembiso Nyoni says the land reform programme has resulted in communal farmers recording an improvement in maize production levels from 50% to the current 90%.
Nyoni said this when she presented a paper on agriculture and food security situation in Zimbabwe to a business delegation in Dubai this Thursday.
She however said the anticipated maize shortages in Zimbabwe are a result of the effects of climate change.
Minister Nyoni said government has put in place mechanisms to avert the looming maize shortages by introducing grain loan schemes, mostly in rural areas.
