Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions Secretary General Japhet Moyo has lamented that Zimbabwe has a president (Emmerson Mnangagwa) who lied to the entire world that he was targeting criminals around former President Robert Mugabe when he and his cabal only wanted the then president to go period.
The military in November last year staged a soft coup which they claimed was targeting criminals around Mugabe but after that they only arrested former Financxe Minister Ignatias Chombo and former youth leader Kudzanayi Chipanga whose cases have gone into oblivion. Mugabe was forced to resign through the coup approach to the political stand off between factions in the ruling party.
"We have a President who and his friends lied to the entire world that they are targeting criminals around Mr Robert Mugabe when in fact they wanted the President himself to go. Non of those criminals have been identified or asked to have their days in a court of law, probably except Mr Chombo. Was it necessary to deploy the army with tanks only to arrest Mr Chombo?" Moyo said.
"Having misled the world in that way, why should the nation and the world believe that this same cabal would deliver a free fair and credible elections? It is misleading to believe that with such an uneven electoral process the country can have a free, fair and credible elections."
He said this rhetoric that the country is free and open for investment is also misleading when the environment and legal frameworks like legislation on investment remains unchanged.
"A government that prints pieces of paper and equate it with hard currency should never be trusted. A government that sentences its citizens to slavery to please FDI should never be trusted," he said.
