A 33-year-old Chinhoyi Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) officer was arrested for stealing a farmer's money from Grain Marketing Board (GMB) after using his vendor number.

Sources close to investigations allege constable Peter Nyasha Chakanyuka stationed at Murereka station in Chinhoyi duped Saul Mutsau (35) by selling his maize to GMB during July to September 2017.

According to a police report the "accused met the complainant and asked him to deliver his maize through GMB vendor number so that he receives his payment early.

"Complainant went to deliver 9,313 tonnes of maize to GMB Vuti using the vendor number of the accused person.

"On the 23rd day of August 2017, a payment of $3 632-00 was made into the account of accused person instead of accused person to remit the money to the complainant , he converted the money to his own use prejudicing complainant.

"Complainant later approached the accused person enquiring about the payment which was made by the GMB. Accused indicated that he had not seen the money and few days later, he transferred $1 200 00 into the account of the complainant.

"Sometime in September 2017, the accused made another transfer of $ 1 400-00. The accused has since failed to account for the $1 032-00 leading to the complainant making a police report."

The matter has been reported under C.R 04/05/18 and the accused is set to appear before Kariba magistrate court soon.
