Ex Zpra cadre Max Mkandla has expressed shock over the ballooning number of political parties totaling 133 which have emerged as intending to contest this year's elections indicating that some of them are cosmetic extensions of the ruling party Zanu PF meant to cause commotion during the elections so as to maintain its rule.
Zimbabwe Electoral Commission has announced that 133 political parties have registered to take party in the elections a figure which has sent tongues wagging in the country.
Mkandla said such as number of political parties in a small nation like Zimbabwe was a cause for concern considering the fact that the hunger in the country is of removing Zanu PF which has ruled Zimbabwe with fist for 37 years.
"We have a political shock of the year in Zimbabwe. 133 political partries wanting to conetst this year's election is a shock though we fought for freedom of association and democracy," he said.
"Zimbabwe seem to have been extremely democratised with the existance of 133 political parties year on the ground some of these political parties are not genuine they are closing the space on behalf of Zanu Pf and most of them seem to have been deployed in Matabeleland."
He said if it is real the fact that people of Zimbabwe want to remove Zanu PF they should compromise their individual interests and join hands under one umbrella to contest against Zanu PF and have more chances of winning.
He warned that the real political party which is feared by Zanu PF is the MDC led by Nelson Chamisa indicating that despite having a court challenge over name and symbols, Chamisa has quite a big following. Mkandla said fragmentation of the opposition was a recipe for Zanu PF to remain at the helm.
His sentiments were echoed by a twitter user Setfree N Mafukidze who posted that 133 political parties contesting election does not make sense.
"Zimbabweans though,133 political parties for what seriously? People can't claim to want change when they are not ready to unite for it,the US a larger economy & country does not have such a big number of political parties. We now have enough parties to get 2 seats each in parly," he said.
