Dualisation of Beitbridge - Harare - Chirundu highways suffers a major blow
30 Mar 2012 at 11:44hrs | Views
Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai has said the Development Bank of South Africa has withdrawn from a project to dualise the Beitbridge-Chirundu highway for unknown reasons.
In 2010 DBSA agreed to extend a $1.3 billion loan for the Beitbirdge-Harare-Chirundu dual carriageway but Tsvangirai said the SA bank had withdrawn its pledged assistance to fund the project.
Tsvangirai said, "In my discussions with the President (Robert Mugabe), we said we don't want to just patch the roads but have dualisation. It may, however, take long because the Development Bank of Africa has withdrawn funding."
He said he was, however, not at liberty to disclose the finer details on the matter.
