Two of Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai's drivers who were arrested and detained at the weekend were released on bail on Tuesday.
The drivers Joshua Mhuruyengwe and Clifford Sanyika were granted bail by Beitbridge Magistrate Gloria Takundwa after their lawyer Kossam Ncube of Ncube and Partners, who was deployed by rights group Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights applied for bail when they first appeared in court on Monday.
Magistrate Takundwa ordered the drivers to pay US$200 each and reside at their given addresses and not to interfere with witnesses in the case.
"They were granted in the sum of $200 each," Ncube said in a telephone interview from Beitbridge.
The two drivers were arrested last Friday for allegedly driving vehicles fitted with beacon lights and charged with contravening the Road Traffic Regulations.
Prosecutors said Mhuruyengwe and Sanyika had not sought authority to drive vehicles fitted with beacon lights from the police, the army or President Robert Mugabe.
