A Bulawayo man allegedly physically abused his wife over a suspected extra-marital affair after she reportedly sent a text message to another man asking for money to purchase prepaid electricity.
Gadina Ndingwa from Pumula South flew into a rage after he suspected that his wife, Monica Munetsi, was having an "all time" rendezvous with another man who she had allegedly sent a text asking for money.
It is reported that as they argued, Ndingwa lost his temper and bashed his wife who on Friday last week approached the Bulawayo Civil Court seeking a protection order against him.
"I am seeking a protection order against my husband who has been physically abusing me for a long time. I have been forgiving him but now I have decided to come to the court after realising that I will end up losing my life.
"The latest incident of abuse was on 11 May when he hit me on my leg as a result of the attack I sustained some injuries. I am now living in fear of losing my life as I'm always being abused," said Munetsi.
In defence, Ndingwa said his wife courted his anger when she decided to ask for money from another man so that she could purchase prepaid electricity. This was after he had also reportedly reprimanded her saying she should use electricity sparingly.
"I assaulted her after she sent a message to another man asking for money to buy prepaid electricity. Just imagine this was after I had reprimanded her to use electricity sparingly," angrily responded Ndingwa.
Following his brazen admission that he abused his wife, in his ruling the presiding magistrate Tinashe Tashaya ordered Ndingwa not to verbally, emotionally and physically abuse his wife.
