President Emmerson Mnangagwa says elections are going ahead on the 30th of July as proclaimed.

Following an explosion soon after President Mnangagwa had addressed a rally at White City Stadium in Bulawayo on Saturday, there has been speculation over the pending elections due in just over a month's time.

However, speaking to the ZBC on the sidelines of the official opening of the Zimbabwe Women's Microfinance Bank in Harare today, Mnangagwa said the media has a tendency of unnecessary speculation.

"Who told you that the elections are stopping? I declared and proclaimed elections and who is trying to deproclaim what I proclaimed. Elections are on the 30th of July this year, 2018," he said.

The Permanent Secretary for Information, Media and Broadcasting Services, Mr George Charamba yesterday also clarified that Saturday's events in Bulawayo do not warrant the stopping of elections.
