The Vice President Retired General Dr Constantino Chiwenga says the state of Nkayi roads has been top on government priority as the district is inaccessible by development agents a situation that has impoverished the district.

Nkayi district in Matabeleland North has remains outside the development zone with a poverty assessment survey done in 2015 declaring it the most poverty stricken district in the country.

In his address at a rally at Nkayi Business Center, Vice President Chiwenga said this perception should be corrected and investment in the road infrastructure is an urgent issue for the district to facilitate easy access by investors and development agents to improve the living standards of the community.

Chiwenga also noted that the health delivery services in the district needs an additional injection of capital not only to improve services at Nkayi Hospital but to also spruce up the clinics which must have proper waiting mothers' shelters to support pregnant women when they deliver.

The Vice President said government has also agreed to capacitate the country's pharmaceutical industry for the manufacturing of drugs to supply the local needs and save the country millions of dollars per year on the importation of drugs.

The district also has water challenges and Dr Chiwenga said the new government will commit itself to the construction of the Zimunya dam that was pegged three decades ago but has never been given priority of resources.

Nkayi district like most parts of Matabeleland will also benefit from the command livestock programme to support livestock farmers who have not benefited from government for years.

The Vice President appealed to the people of Nkayi to vote for President Mnangagwa and Zanu PF parliamentarians and councillors come July 30 elections.
