Irate residents to dump garbage at Town House

Irate Harare residents have threatened to dump putrid refuse bags at municipal offices around the city to protest delayed rubbish collection over a period of a few weeks.
Residents are threatening to take the law into their own hands after rubbish piled up by roadsides in the city, often spilling over to block traffic, with the garbage littering the city's sprawling hinterland - risking an "ecological and health disaster".
Harare Residents Trust director Precious Shumba said residents are being forced to burn garbage which in itself is hazardous to the environment. The move to dump refuse at council offices comes as HCC has not been systematically collecting garbage for more than three weeks arguing that the fleet can only cater for 50 percent of Harare.
"If council is not collecting refuse in your community, mobilise transport and dump it at the nearest district office so that council takes the refuse from one central point. If it is always at their district offices, they will clear it and dispose of the refuse appropriately," Shumba said.
