A Mbare man was hauled before the court for allegedly pushing his workmate into a fire after a misunderstanding.

Bright Chigovari was not asked to plead when he appeared before Harare magistrate Rumbidzai Mugwagwa charged with assault.

The State led by Ropafadzo Bosch had it that on July 6 at Waste Paper along Seke Road, the duo was at work when a misunderstanding arose between them which prompted Chigovari to push his colleague into the fire.

The complainant Lovemore Maise sustained serious burns on the face and is currently admitted in Parirenyatwa Hospital.

Prosecutor Ropafadzo Bosch opposed bail stating that the victim's condition was deteriorating and the State may be left with no choice but to change the charge to a more serious offence which may cause Chigovari to default court and flee.

In response to the application by the State, Chigovari dismissed claims that Maise was seriously injured and that the argument arose after Maise refused to pay back the $8 that he owed him.

Bail was denied and the matter was remanded to July 23.
