Jeffryson Chitando, the MDC-T MP for Masvingo Central was this morning detained for four hours at Masvingo Central Police Station on claims that he threatened to kill Chief Murinye.
Soon after his release, Chitando said he was re-arrested by two police officers from the Law and Order Section. The police officers said they were detaining him after receiving a complaint from Chief Murinye that the MP had threatened to kill him.
The police said the threats were made by Chitando over the phone but they could not furnish a date of when the call was made.
However, Chitando dismissed the police and the chief's claims and said the issue was nothing but political. Chief Murinye is a known Zanu PF supporter in the area.
Last month the Zanu PF chief summoned Chitando to his court to explain why he had held a successful MDC rally in the area. The MP declined to attend the meeting.
