Local MPs have been a big let down for Matabeleland- MDC Alliance member

MDC Alliance member Descent Bajla has said the idea that local members of parliament who are known by all the people can help in development remains a myth as it appears most of the MPs known to the locals have proved to be useless.
"One of my regrettable contributions to the challenges facing Zimbabwe has been collaborating in the argument that a good MP is one who knows and is known to every corner of the constituency," he said.
"Looking back, we have a majority of our MPs, particularly in Matebeleland, being people who are known in the vast parts of the constituencies and they also know the places. What they seem not to know is how to make laws. Unfortunately that's the main function of an MP."
He said community Development is the role of government departments and through their oversight role, MPs make sure that government departments act lawfully and speedily.
"For an MP to fund the construction of a bridge, it will mean that they would have failed to play oversight over the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure Development together with it's departments like ZINARA," he said.
"MPs who spend years sitting in Parliament and not contributing to debates are our biggest liability as a people. We need to vote for law makers."
