Zimbabwe Electoral Commission Commissioner Qhubani Moyo has warned the electorate over the reports that ZEC chairperson Priscillah Chigumba has resigned describing that as fake news.

"Take note of this fake news story in circulation meant to derail elections," Moyo said before posting the story which claimed Chigumba has resigned.

The story in question reads below:

In an unprecedentant development,Priscilla Chigumba, the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission chairperson will hand in her resignation letter on Monday the 16th of July, two weeks before the General Election.

Unconfirmed reports claim the insurmountable pressure from both sides of the political divide has taken its toll on her and is responsible for her unexpected but welcome decision.

Chigumba argues that undue interference from the military and Zanu PF have grossly impeded in her ability to execute her duties in a fair and just manner thereby diminishing her constitutional mandate and professional ambit to deliver a free & fair election.

The Opposition has caused a furore and are in the process of registering their discontent in the law courts at the way ZEC has so far conducted itself pertaining the Elections.

On Wednesday last week the MDC alliance arguably the leading contender in the forthcoming elections staged a huge & successful protest in Harare to express their discontent against the elections commission.

The protest comes on the heels of rising disgruntlement fanned by the postal ballot fiasco at Ross Camp in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe's second largest city, where police officers where allegedly forced to vote in the presence of their superiors.

The officers involved alleged that this was an infringment on the their right to secrecy when voting.

Tendai Biti,a principal in the MDC Alliance fumed, "It is honourable for Chigumba to resign,in fact , it is good riddance to bad rubbish! This signals the end of the era of vote rigging ."

Efforts to get an official comment from the ZEC Public Relations Office and The Chairperson's Office where unsuccessful.
