Residents complain of harassment and prevention of free movement

BULAWAYO - Following the exposure of clandestine police officers postal voting at Ross Camp last week, police officers at the camp have closed the main gate to the camp in what they claim is meant to prevent the MDC Alliance members who protested against the unclear postal voting from entering.

Ross Camp is the residence of police officers and their families. Residents and visitors to the camp who used to enter freely have complained that they are now subjected to screening when they are entering the camp and complained that they are now like prisoners.

A visit to the main gate by this publication established that the gate was closed.

"They have closed gates at Ross camp and left only one, the main gate facing Egodini. Thy claim that they want to stop MDC members from infiltrating camp and influencing cops from reporting stuff like the clandestine illegal voting during the week," one resident said.

"Residents are forced to use the long way and people are now vetted thoroughly if entering."

"We are now prisoners at the camp why is this happening."

The developments come after the MDC Alliance members last week disrupted the postal voting which was being conducted without Zimbabwe Electoral Commission officers, political parties agents and observers.
