Jacob Ngarivhume is a man on a mission. Having led Transform Zimbabwe since its formation, he has grown from strength to strength politically.
In 2017, Ngarivhume joined hands with other six opposition party leaders under the able leadership of the late Dr Morgan Tsvangirai to form the MDC Alliance. Though beset by a plethora of problems, the Alliance has become a force that can upstage ZANU PF in the impending plebiscite.
As part of the Alliance Agreement, the seven political parties were allocated constituencies in which to field their candidates and not compete against each other. However, internal power struggles have bedevilled MDCT resulting in the party failing to hold proper primaries. This confusion has now engulfed the whole Alliance with double candidates appearing in most constituencies.
Chamisa has failed to reign in his MDCT candidates. Principals like Biti in Harare East and Ngarivhume in Bikita East have been forced to compete against fellow Alliance candidates in their allocated constituencies.
This has not deterred Ngarivhume who has continued to work quietly on the ground. For the past two weeks he has visited almost all the wards in the constituency with his message of hope and transformation. Closed dip tanks have been reopened and some clinics have power restored after years of ZANU PF neglect.
When the Alliance President Nelson Chamisa visited the constituency for a rally at Chigumisirwa Business Centre, on 15 July 2018, the whole constituency was abuzz with Ngarivhume stealing the limelight. Bikita East has fallen in love with their own son. Ngarivhume is man of the moment. The level of expectation, hope and joy among the electorate is palpable and electric. They can not wait for July 30 to put a seal of approval on the man they have chosen.
