A teacher from a Bulawayo private college, Metro Institute, was fired a week before schools closed last week for allegedly fondling a Form Four pupil.

"My friend is still struggling to deal with how her teacher sexually abused her," a friend of the girl said.

"She was standing along the main pavement where the pupils usually stand during their recess when the teacher came from her behind and fondled her buttocks and walked away without saying a word," said the friend.

The friend said the incident was witnessed by other pupils who were appalled by their teacher's behavior.

"She immediately alerted the school authorities who took action by terminating the teacher's contract on the same day," said the friend.

The school headmistress,  who only identified herself as Mrs Majarawanda, confirmed the incident and  said: "Yes that incident occurred during end of term examinations and we were very shocked to learn that one of our staff members could actually molest the same children he should protect."

Mrs Majarawanda also said that what the teacher did tarnished the image of the institution.
"We are actually ashamed to be associated with people like him and what we could do as a school was to keep him away from our pupils and we left the rest of the decisions to the girl's parents whom we immediately alerted," said Mrs Majarawanda.

The teacher's whereabouts are not known with close sources saying he fled the city.
