Air Force of Zimbabwe last week rescued four fishermen who were marooned fishing at Mushonga Dam, Triangle, Masvingo and spent the night on a baobab tree.
Taurai Goderema (30), George Chinogwa (30), Crispen Taurai (30) and Kenneth Muguti (38) were fishing on the lower part of the dam. "As we were fishing, it rained on the upper areas resulting in the inflow of water increasing," said Muguti.
"We then climbed a baobab tree as the water kept increasing and started shouting for help as the dam kept swelling."
Muguti said some villagers who heard their screams alerted the police.
"We spent the night on the tree and the airforce came at 10am the following day."
The police confirmed the incident and warned members of the public against fishing in dams and rivers during the rain.
In a statement, the police urged the public who can't swim to shout for help than try and swim.
