A suspected serial robber and rapist who terrorised people in Marondera and Hwedza has been arrested.
Blessing Tsikai (30) was arrested in Mozambique last weekend. Mashonaland East provincial police spokesman Inspector Bulisani Bhebhe confirmed Tsikai's arrest yesterday. Tsikai was identified by a member of the public who had seen his face on posters in Marondera and Hwedza.
"There had been an outcry from members of the public concerning Tsikai's criminal activities and we assured them that we would eventually arrest him," said Insp Bhebhe.
He said Tsikai, who had been on the run for sometime will appear in court soon facing charges of rape, robbery, malicious damage to property, unlawful entry and theft. Tsikai fled from police when he was about to be apprehended last year in Wedza.
"He then crossed into Mozambique through an illegal crossing point in Manicaland," said Insp Bhebhe.
Tsikai is in custody at Marondera Central Police Station and is expected to appear in court soon. According to unconfirmed reports, Tsikai frequently crossed back into Zimbabwe to consult traditional healers in Chipinge in order to evade arrest.
