A Mberengwa man (47) is on the run after he allegedly strangled a woman to death before having sex with her corpse.
Midlands provincial police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed that Reuben Dovi is on the wanted list.
"We have since launched a manhunt for one Reuben Dovi and we urge anyone with information on his whereabouts to contact the nearest police station," he said.
Assistant Inspector Mahoko disclosed that some time last month, Dovi of Mhlambi Village in Mberengwa saw his neighbour Egnata Tambarare (60) and her eight-year-old daughter sleeping on the veranda of their house at around 2am.
He allegedly sneaked into the blankets and tried to be intimate with the elderly woman. A scuffle ensued during which he strangled her. He then had sexual intercourse with the corpse. Tambarare's daughter fled, but Dovi allegedly followed and assaulted a woman who had given her sanctuary.
He disappeared into the night thereafter.
A police report was subsequently made, prompting law enforcement agents to activate their surveillance systems.
Assistant Inspector Mahoko urged members of the public to sleep indoors at all times and to secure doors and windows.
