Secretary-general in the Chamisa-led MDC-T Mr Douglas Mwonzora is taking The Herald to court over a story which alleges that cracks have emerged in the MDC-Alliance barely three days after President-elect Emmerson Mnangagwa and Zanu-PF won in the July 30 harmonised elections.

The Herald alleged that it had an interview with Mwonzora where he said he was against the involvement of Mr Mugabe and made his position clear even before last week's harmonised elections.

"My opposition to Mugabe is known in the party. I did not like Mugabe. I have opposed working with him. I think Mugabe is a kiss of death. I still maintain that," said Mr Mwonzora.

He added: "I do not think there is any wisdom in working with him. We are not working with Mugabe as a party. Mugabe is 94 years old. He must just rest. He must not be involved in political processes of the country. I think at 94 he must rest and have nothing to so with the country. That is my personal opinion. I am against any association with Mugabe."

Mwonzora has distanced himself from the allegations and has indicated that the story was false and malicious.

Said Mwonzora on Twitter, "The story in the Herald of today suggesting that there is infighting between @nelsonchamisa and myself post election is false and malicious. It is typically designed to sow seeds of division within the MDC Alliance. I remain focused on the People's struggle."

Mwonzora indicated that he has formally sued The Herald over the false story.

Said Mwonzora on Twitter, "Today I have formally sued The Herald over the false story it published yesterday.  I seek exemplary damages over the malicious story. While as a constitution maker I respect freedom of expression I think malicious reporting must be punished."
