A HARARE man died on Friday morning after his estranged wife pulled his genitals at the height of an altercation. Police were yet to establish what led to the death but said investigations were still in progress.
The deceased, popularly known as "Mafuta" at Mbare Siya-so scrap yard was staying at a squatter camp near Mukuvisi River.
Mafuta was reportedly separated from his first wife who stayed in Epworth and was cohabiting with another woman.
The incident occurred at around 11am.
Harare provincial police spokesperson Inspector James Sabau said they are waiting for post mortem results to ascertain the cause of death.
"I received a message that the man who died was involved in a fight with his ex-wife. The other people he was staying with said they found him dead after the fight.
"When I tried to get in touch with respective offices for more information they were not in their offices," he said.
A close friend and a work mate Mr Nyamande Kiwi said the deceased was having marital problems with his wife.
"Today she came here drunk holding her beer cans and a scuffle ensued with his wife demanding to know why he dropped her for another woman. As they were still fighting Mafuta fell on top of her, wet his pants, gave a small cry and went quiet," he said.
A vendor Ms Mejury Moyo, who operates at the same place said Mafuta's wife was drunk and insulted people at the market.
"I cannot imagine that this was were it would end. It was indeed an omen. I cannot believe it because this started in the morning when she came to our tables holding three canes of beer with her baby strapped on her back. She went on to shout at us before disappearing," she fumed.
Another vendor said: "I believe she is possessed because when she came to our tables she was very drunk causing havoc at the market."
Police reportedly attended to the scene two hours later and the body had not yet been collected by 4:30pm.
